6 Days Piping
3D Piping with Mech-Q
Day 1: Setting Up for Success
Welcome to the first day of the 6 Days of Piping Class! Today, we’re preparing everything before diving into Mech-Q.
What We’ll Cover:
- Configure essential 3D Piping and BOM settings.
- Enable the Weld Gap option for Carbon Steel, Butt Welded Fittings.
- Allow Mech-Q to manage layers automatically.
Day 2: Drawing 3D Pipe and Fittings
What We’ll Cover:
- Create pipes and fittings using Mech-Q.
- Learn two routing methods for piping:
- A flexible method for various fittings and connections.
- An alternate method using the simple routing tool for auto-inserting elbows.
Day 3: Creating the Bill of Materials (BOM)
What We’ll Cover:
- Create two BOM files for importing into Excel.
- Label pipe and fittings in the drawing:
- Pipe: Circle bubbles.
- Fittings: Hexagon bubbles.
- Use the Tangential Option to group bubbles side by side.
Day 4: Dimensioning and Annotating
What We’ll Cover:
- Use the Customized Centermark Option for centerlines.
- Dimension the drawing using the 3D Dimensioning Tool.
- Annotate with the 2D/3D Leader Tool for labeling pipe spools.
Day 5: Setting Up Paperspace
What We’ll Cover:
- Insert the BOM schedule into Paperspace.
- Adjust colors and line widths for a shaded drawing ready for printing.
Day 6: Printing and Finalizing
What We’ll Cover:
- Print the project and save it as a PDF.
- Optional: Print directly to an office printer.
Congratulations on completing the 6-day class!
